President's Message: 11-17-08

 

   Dear Brothers and Sisters:   

I recently attended a Special President's Council that was held on Nov 6, 2008. The meeting was chaired by the TWU International President, Jim Little. Also present was International Reps, Joe Gordon, John Conley, Bobby Gless, Don Videtich, Dennis Bruchette, and Tim Gillespie. Jim opened the meeting on discussing TWU International structural changes. There will be some personal changes and I will send those out to you as I receive them. We talked about the Statigic Planning meetings that came from the TWU Convention. These meetings will continue next year. These include ways to improve our union and have input from our members on which direction TWU should be heading. Some ideas have come from the surveys that went out earlier. Next we discussed the election and the great job that our members put forth. TWU was the first AFL-CIO union to endorse Obama. TWU has met with the policy makers from the Obama campaign to have input on the transition. The National Mediation Board members will be one of the first to be put into place. Three Thousand positions will be appointed with only 650 needing congressional approval. TWU will have input with these positions as also to the FAA Administrator position. We ended the day talking about our Negotiation Plans for the future. We have drafted our Goals, and Strategies, and Internal Tactics. We will be discussing these at future Membership Meetings. The next meetings that will be held is for the M & R Committee. They are meeting this week Nov 17th - 20th. Next is the Joint Committee, we are meeting Dec 2nd - 8th. This is going to be our ( Joint ) last attempt to get a contract for our groups without going into Meditation. Our Committee feels that we are at the point that mediation will help us bring this to a close, and bring something back to you the members to vote on.
